In light of the Prime Minister’s goal to see available apprenticeships rise from 250,000 to 500,000 over the next 10 years, London’s entry level job site, Fuse Jobs say, “If this vision is to become a reality, it is integral that the country’s perception of vocational training being second rate to academic education is addressed.”
We are thrilled to hear that Gordon Brown wants to double the number of apprentices”
According to Fuse Jobs, “The key to achieving Gordon Brown’s target is to make apprenticeships accessible to all. At the moment many young people want to start an apprenticeship but simply cannot find a suitable employer, even though many employers are desperate for exactly those skills that apprenticeships offer. What is needed is a centralised matching of potential apprentices with apprenticeship vacancies - making it easy for both parties to find each other. It’s an area that’s already gained momentum at Fuse Jobs, which carries hundreds of apprenticeship and trainee positions within its 20,000 entry-level vacancies across London.”
While Gordon Brown’s plans to increase opportunities for apprenticeships to unemployed young people is welcome, the Prime Minister has failed to address a number of key issues, or put in place sufficient mechanisms to ensure these new apprenticeships are accessible, taken up and successful. Fuse Jobs plans to step up to this challenge and create an online service to plug the gap and ensure young people and employers can make the most of the extra 250,000 apprenticeships that will be made available.
