By: The CollegeBound Network Tom Pierce, assistant vice president of marketing and admissions at Baltimore International College, describes the Ireland campus as a fully functioning inn that students attend during the third or fourth semester of their curriculum. The curriculum at Baltimore International College offers programs in culinary and hospitality management. Certificates, associate's degrees, and bachelor's degrees are all available, depending on a student's preference or curriculum. In the culinary arts field, students learn all they need to know from nutrition to inventory control to food safety, while also offering programs in baking and pastry. "We're a fully accredited school so students might earn their associate's degree here and can transfer to any other college for their bachelor's," In addition to their culinary programs, Baltimore International College also boasts comprehensive programs in hospitality management. Students can earn a bachelor of science in hospitality management, as well as the same degree with a marketing concentration. No matter what field students decide to pursue, they can be assured that they're learning from the best. Among some staff members are 13 certified master pastry chefs and an Olympic culinary team member. "The best thing about coming to Baltimore International College is the quality of the culinary staff," says Pierce. "The industry experience of the members of our staff is at least 15-20 years each. They're well-seasoned and instructional individuals." There is no typical student at Baltimore International College, says Pierce. "Some come right out of high school; some are career switchers. It's a diverse student body who have always wanted a degree." Since students study a particular career field, they're expected to dress the part. Upon applying for school, students fill out order forms for their culinary uniforms. On the other hand, hospitality students wear jackets and ties. "It's mostly business attire in the hospitality industry so we like our students to be in that type of professional environment," No matter where one decides to go to school, Pierce suggests getting a culinary degree. "That's your entrance into a kitchen," he says. "Chefs in the world are looking for new employees who have experience." Students must take advantage of every avenue in every aspect of their culinary and hospitality lives. "Schooling doesn't stop -- it's everyday. Professionals hone their skills all the time," he says. "It's not just about the education -- it's also about the experience."
