The new feature known as the "The Randomizer" allows the websites users to view 3 randomly selected gifts from the thousands of weird and unusual gifts they currently have in stock. The images of the products appear in a small box positioned at the top right hand-side margin.
Three images will randomly appear each time the page is refreshed or when internal links are pressed.
The Randomizer will certainly appeal to people who enjoy fruit machines as the products clearly look like a fruit machines flashing reels each time they appear.
The purpose of this tool is to help customers view as many products as possible, so that they can find the gift that they didn't know they were looking for at a much quicker speed.
The Random Shops Randomizer was created by their senior web developer, Tommy "Turbo fingers" Hammond, who holds the record for the youngest person ever to build a website, when he did so back in 1988, at the age of 5.
He explained that The Random Shop's ideology is: based around people having “random shopping experiences"
So, underneath the fruit machine-esc tri-image display is a button that says "Find a Random Product". By pressing this button the customer will be presented with a randomly selected product in its own page, with description, details and price. This will save time searching through the different categories and is a fun way to view The Random Shop's and funny gift range - they even sell Cool Slogan T-Shirts and Belt Buckles.
On a serous note though, could this be the future of online Shopping? Is there too much choice in today’s society? Is Randomly the only way to shop online? Who knows?
