Coffee with a Conscience

Coffee is one of the UK’s favourite refreshments and an intrinsic part of the national day. Yet very few of us actually appreciate the social and economic consequences of the long and gruelling journey from bean to cup.

Sept. 27, 2007 - PRLog -- Vending machine specialists Kafévend work with suppliers who source many of their very best products from organisations such as Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and A Brighter Tomorrow. Coffees and teas bearing these distinctive emblems are produced and distributed with sustainability and a fair deal for third world farmers in mind.

The largest commodity crop market after petroleum, coffee occupies more than 10 million hectares of land for production, generates $70 billion dollars in annual retail sales and employs 25 million people worldwide. With this in mind and a commitment to supplying great tasting refreshment, Kafévend’s hot beverage vending machines are one of few UK projects supporting coffee with a conscience and making sustainable coffee available on a national scale around the UK.

With vending machines stationed the length and breadth of the mainland UK, Kafévend make it easy for commercial concerns to set out their support for sustainability and environmentally fair trade by serving great tasting coffee supported by ecological charities such as the Rainforest Alliance.

One of the first kafévend vending machine ranges to fully incorporate sustainable coffee is the Kenco Singles selection by Kraft. Offering choice and flexibility, the Kenco Singles range for Kafévend vending machines offers a choice of great tasting drinks grown under sustainable conditions by the Rainforest Alliance. A non-profit organization experienced in sustainable agriculture, the Kenco range of sustainable drinks is one of a limited number of coffees on the market to be rewarded by the Alliance with its sustainable conscience certification.

Kafévend’s supply of Kenco Singles in its vending machines is made all the more impressive in light of manufacturer Kraft’s commitment to setting the standards for the coffee-making industry. In 2006 for example, Kraft purchased £29 million of coffee from certified farmers and has been actively committed to sustainable farming methods for coffee since 2003. The production involves practical methods for improving farm management, while adopting effective measures for the protection of both the environment and community. Involved at grassroots level, Kraft have partnered with the Rainforest Alliance, helping to train coffee farmers to reach certification standards by purchasing increasing quantities of certified, sustainable coffee.

Grown in far-flung corners of the globe, Kafévend have made this coffee with a conscience widely available through its network of hot beverage vending machines and coffee machines.
