Foreign Universities Eye Indian Student Base

Report Buyer, the online destination for business intelligence for major industry sectors, has added a new report which forecasts that foreign universities will be looking to collaborate with universities in India.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Sep 26, 2007 – Report Buyer, the online destination for business intelligence for major industry sectors, has added a new report which forecasts that foreign universities will be looking to collaborate with universities in India in order to fill the void in the country’s educational system.

"Education Services Market in India (2007)", finds that India has all the resources and potential to become a regional educational focal point. The report predicts that students from neighbouring countries in the region will soon be flocking to the country for higher education.

Authors say that India’s education system has seen phenomenal growth, with total enrolment reaching 10.5 million in 2005-2006. However, it points out that the country’s system has both positives and negatives. While on one hand there is large student base, on the other, there is also a dearth of quality universities. But both these factors, says the publication, will contribute to attracting foreign university tie ups.

The report puts trends in India’s education system in perspective, documenting how the sector has seen a vast increase in the number of private institutes while the number of public institutions has increased only slightly.  It says most of the growth has occurred in institutes offering professional courses and that this trend is likely to continue. It is estimated that nearly 30% of students enrolled in higher education in the year 2005-2006 were enrolled in private institutions that did not receive aid from the Government.

Key issues addressed by the report include the entry and operational regulations for foreign universities/institutions providing technical education in India as well as modes of financing higher education.
