FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Sep 25, 2007 – Autumn Lawn Care

Extreme drought and heat has damaged most lawns this summer. Even irrigated lawns have suffered. This is the best time of year to repair the damage to your lawn. Brentwood Landscapes offers a four-step plan designed to restore your lawn. Services include: (1) weed control, (2) core aeration, (3) overseeding, and (4) fertilization.

Step 1 - Weed Control

The first step to renovating the lawn is to remove unwanted weeds. These weeds may be either grassy weeds like crab grass and johnson grass, or they may be broadleaf weeds like clover or dandelion. It is important to control these weeds with a liquid spray application. This is usually done two weeks before overseeding.

Step 2 - Aeration

Over time a compacted lawn needs renovation. Compacted soil contributes to the accumulation of thatch because restricted oxygen levels in highly compacted soils impair the activity of earthworms and other thatch-decomposing organisms. Left unmanaged, thatch can lead to serious maintenance and pest problems. If soil is compacted, the solution is straightforward: aerify. The practice of physically removing cores of soil and leaving holes or cavities in the lawn is defined as core aeration or aerification.

Benefits of Aerating the Lawn:

Loosens compacted soil and increases the availability of water and nutrients.
Enhances oxygen levels in the soil, stimulating root growth and enhancing the activity of thatch-decomposing organisms.
While removing cores of soil, the spoons or tines also sever roots, rhizomes and stolons. Grass plants are stimulated to produce new shoots and roots that "fill up" the holes in the lawn and increase the density of the turf.
Reduces water runoff.
Increases the lawn's drought tolerance and improves its overall health.

Step 3 - Overseeding

Aerating is usually combined with seeding, particularly on sparse or bare areas. Before Brentwood Landscapes overseeds a lawn, we make several passes over the area with the aerator machine, producing a number of holes, at least 4 inches apart. This will improve the appearance and density of the new stand of grass. With a fraction of the effort and expense of renovating the lawn from scratch, combining aerification with seeding will give the lawn a brand-new look by next spring.

Step 4 - Fertilization

The final step in Brentwood Landscapes' lawn care plan is to broadcast a low nitrogen starter fertilizer after the seeding process in completed. This process helps new grass seedlings get the proper measure of nutrients as it matures.

Irrigation Services

To keep a lawn and landscape thriving during hot and dry conditions is challenging. Plants require consistent watering, but rainfall is unpredictable during the summer. Your can protect your lawn and landscape investment by installing a fully automated irrigation system. Brentwood Landscapes designs, installs and services irrigation systems so your lawn and landscape won't suffer.

Benefits of an Irrigation System:

An automatic irrigation system is the most efficient way to water your landscape. An essential garden chore will disappear!

Irrigation systems equipped with rain sensing devices conserve water by reducing runoff and avoiding wasteful water practices.

Irrigation systems protect the investment you have made in your lawn and landscape. It will increase your property's appraised value and curb appeal.
Regular, uniform irrigation of turf promotes deeper root growth, resulting in a healthier, more drought tolerant lawn.

Value-driven clients looking for professional contractors that are licensed, insured and certified will consider Brentwood Landscapes. Additionally, Brentwood Landscapes is a company that stands behind their work with a full one-year warranty and service agreement.
