Lumison takes a hard look at marketing “confuseopolies”
Lumison, one of the UK's leading business-class ISPs, has published a paper on the increasing mismatch between the marketing messages being published by many mainstream consumer ISPs and the network reality and costs of living up to those promises.
With the aggressive use of “Fair Usage Policies” over the past few years, some ISPs have refused service to customers with high bandwidth demands of their networks. With the growth of high bandwidth content such as streamed content from the BBC iPlayer and increasing use of online video games, it is now quite easy for an “average” broadband user to find themselves on the wrong side of these Fair Usage Policies.
Lumison is proposing that it is time that the industry and its representative bodies stood up and created clarity in the marketplace to improve service for their customers and improve the collective reputation of broadband ISPs.
