Sellers unhappy at upfront cost of Hips, says National Homebuyers

Home sellers are reluctant to pay for Home information packs (Hips) upfront.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep 24, 2007 -
That is according to a new survey by Hips Payment Services, which says that most sellers would rather use a deferred payment scheme.

It would mean that the packs are not paid for until the sale of a property has gone through.

No HIPS required | Fast property sale

"Traditionally, the majority of costs incurred with selling a home, such as estate agent and solicitors fees are charged at the end of the process, typically when the vendor's sale has gone through," said Jeff Smith from Hips Payment Services.

"While all of the costs incurred in a Hip, aside from the new Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), are not new, the majority of these have previously been met by the buyer and consumers have not been asked to pay for this upfront," he added.

The cost of the packs has been an issue since they were launched, with sellers concerned that they are being hit for hundreds of pounds when they may be selling their property in order to ease financial difficulties rather than incurring more costs.

Concerns have also been voiced that Hips have seriously dented anyone's chances of making a quick property sale.
