Communications giant and leading broadband providers British Telecom has announced that it has now broken the four million customer barrier, proving that it is in the broadband game for the long haul and enabling it to keep the number one spot as broadband provider in the UK. BT is the first broadband provider to sign up such a large volume of customers, and based on the figures a new customer has signed up every forty seconds, which equates to over two thousand customers a day singing up with the giant.
With broadband soaring in popularity in the UK, and competition getting tougher and tougher, this is quite an achievement for BT. Although, like other broadband providers, it has customers that are not happy about issues such as speeds, throttling, and other issues that can affect the speed of the broadband for which they are paying, BT is still enjoying huge success, as reflected by the recent customer figures.
A spokesperson from British Telecom stated: "As an industry we need to make it clearer what we mean by these terms, so that our customers know exactly what we mean by 'up to 8mb'. We will never be the cheapest but we offer a good variety of services and add-ons our customers seem to like."
The BT Retail chief executive stated: "Four million customers is a great achievement in such a short time. Broadband has proved to be one of the most popular new services ever seen. It is already delivering next generation television, inclusive free phone calls in High Definition sound and great value mobile calls."
He also added: "Broadband can provide so many more services than just internet surfing and it has become central to many people's lives and businesses. Customers want to take advantage of the potential of broadband and need a high quality, reliable service."
