OPW Proposes Improvement Works for Newmarket-On-Fergus & Doonbeg Garda Stations

14th Sept 07 - Minister of State and Clare T.D., Mr. Tony Killeen has received confirmation from the Office of Public Works that tenders are currently being sought for improvements works to be carried out at two Garda Stations in Clare.

Sept. 14, 2007 - PRLog -- Minister Killeen said that the OPW is proposing to carry out alterations and additions to Newmarket-on-Fergus and Doonbeg Garda Stations.

According to the Minister, "I very much welcome the announcement that refurbishment works will shortly commence at the Garda Stations in Doonbeg and Newmarket-on-Fergus.  It is very important that members of An Garda Síochana are in a position to work in modern facilities."

"A great deal of work has been done in recent years to upgrade existing and build new Garda Stations throughout the country.  Rank and file members of An Garda Síochána are now befitting from working in fully equipped and modern facilities", added Minister Killeen.

Describing the proposed works at Newmarket-on-Fergus Garda Station, the Minister said, "The works will include the replacement of the existing windows and doors to the Garda Station and residential quarters, demolition of the existing front and rear boundary walls, construction of new perimeter front and rear boundary wall, re-alignment of the existing vehicular entrances and provision of new vehicular access gates.  The proposed works also include the provision of visitor parking to the front of the building and private parking to the rear."

Regarding Doonbeg Garda Station, Minister Killeen stated, "The proposed scheme includes the replacement of the existing windows and doors to the Garda Station and residential quarters.  Other works include the demolition of the existing and construction of a new front boundary wall and rear part wall, the realignment of the existing vehicular entrance, and the provision of new pedestrian gates and vehicular access gates."

Meanwhile, the OPW has confirmed that drawings and particulars of the proposed developments are available for inspection at their Limerick-based office and at the two Garda Stations concerned.  The details will remain on display from 9.30am-12.30pm and between 2.30pm-5pm until 19th October 2007.
