Ven. Khangser Rinpoche to Teach ‘The Six Preparatory Practices’ at Choe Khor Sum Ling, Bangalore

During this weekend teaching Rinpoche will emphasize the importance of correctly carrying out the preliminary practices that are necessary causes for generating the experiential realizations of the main practice in the practitioners’ minds.

Venerable Bhikshu Khangser Rinpoche will teach ‘The Six Preparatory Practices’ at Choe Khor Sum Ling – Tibetan Buddhist Meditation & Study Center, Bangalore on September 8 & 9, 2007. The Six Preparatory Practices are preliminary activities that practitioners engage in for all meditations. During this weekend teaching Rinpoche will emphasize the importance of correctly carrying out these preliminary practices. The Six Preparatory Practices are necessary causes for generating the experiential realizations of the main practice in the practitioners’ minds. The preliminary activities include among other things maintaining the seven Vairochana attributes of posture and then, with a mind of extraordinary virtue, taking refuge, generating enlightenment mind, and so forth. It also includes performance of the Seven-Limb Practice.

Venerable Bhikshu Khangser Rinpoche at the young age of 31, is already among the foremost Buddhist scholars/practitioners of our time.  Rinpoche stands apart in that he has experience in teaching non-Buddhist Indians and Westerners, and is trained in the Old School (Nyingma) and New School (Sarma) traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. Rinpoche currently teaches at the Sera Jey Monastic University in Bylakuppe in Mysore District in South India. Choe Khor Sum Ling Center, Bangalore invites practitioners to take this rare opportunity to hear Rinpoche explain in easily understood terms the importance of preliminary practices that are necessary for generating in our mind the experiential realizations of the main practice. In addition this teaching event will include group meditation and discussions.

Choe Khor Sum Ling (CKSL) – Tibetan Buddhist Meditation & Study Center, Bangalore is a center for the study and practice of Mahayana Buddhism following the lineage and example of Lord Buddha. The Center, whose name means 'The Sanctuary of the Three Turnings of the Wheel of Dharma' was founded in 2003 by Lama Zopa Rinpoche under the guidance of HH the XIVth Dalai Lama. CKSL offers courses in various Buddhist meditation techniques and teachings on the various aspects of the Graduated Path to Enlightenment. Teachings are offered free to the public and are conducted in English or in Tibetan (with translation in English). In addition to regular teachings every few weeks the Center invites senior Lamas to give talks on important aspects of the Buddhist path. Such talks are also accompanied by instructions and initiations by the Lama into different meditation practices and also include group meditation sessions.
