WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, SEPTEMBER 6,2007> - On the “grind” is the understatement of the year when making reference to these hip hop industry up and comers. In less then one year the Winnipeg independents have managed to take the Canadian Hip Hop industry by storm. With the radio hit “Shake it” gaining momentum, national exposure for the single followed with a big budget music video that is in rotation on Much Music and MTV Canada. Followed by the summer smash “Oooh”, where the Winnipeg rap artists took the opportunity to head to the exotic island nation of Cuba for the shoot and casting of that music video. So what’s next for Canada's hottest indie prospects? The release of a collaboration and music video featuring R&B Heavyweights Jagged Edge (“I Need a Girl”PT2 Feat. P.Diddy, “Put a LittleUmph In It”).
“We are bringing the players anthems back to hip hop, lately the ladies have taken a distant third place toviolence and drugs in hip hop content” says Julius (Ivan Skok) “We plan on changing that”. And change thatthey have, Provocative is often the word used when describing the lyrics of the Winnipeg tag team, who alsoproduce a promotional clothing line for fans including the now famous Crown Playaz booty shorts which areavailable online and we be given away free at the upcoming show.
“Myspace and YouTube have been a instrumental to our success” explained Prince (Andrew Akinsanya) who also mentioned the group has completed taping an episode of Rap City for Canada's Much Music. The Winnipeg indierappers are on fire and set to take over Canadian Hip Hop, often labeled in Hip Hop circles nationwide as being the first Canadians rappers to make the successful transition into the US market.
