Sept. 5, 2007 - PRLog -- (Washington, D.C.) September 5, 2007 -- Junk in the Trunk, LLC has become the first Washington D.C.-area junk removal company to earn the prestigious Green Business Seal of Approval from Co-op America, a non-profit organization dedicated to a socially just and environmentally sustainable society.

Junk in the Trunk is already known throughout the region for its customer-focused, reliable and friendly service, but the Co-op America award validates the company’s commitment to a healthy community.

“As a small company, we’re trying to standardize our earth-friendly business practices now to ensure we can better manage our environmental impact as we grow in the coming years,” said Junk in the Trunk President Linden Coyne. “I hope the local business community will take notice of this achievement and join us in our mission to make the D.C. metro area a greener place to live.”

To further its commitment to the community, Junk in the Trunk will be taking part in the D.C. Green Festival on Oct. 6-7 at the Washington Convention Center. The Green Festival brings together local and national socially responsible businesses and community organizations to showcase programs, products, and services that serve their communities and empower people to create a lasting Green economy.

Junk in the Trunk earned its Co-op America award thanks to a series of environmentally and socially conscious practices. The company is careful to divert excess junk from landfills. Key to this effort is Junk in the Trunk’s unique Ecovery BoxSM, an enclosed six cubic yard box in the front of each truck’s dump body that allows the efficient separation, protection, and labeling of donations and recycling items.

Reducing its carbon footprint is a top priority for Junk in the Trunk and the Earth-friendly practices don’t stop with junk removal. Junk in the Trunk uses 100% recycled paper and vegetable-based ink for all marketing material. They also provide paid time for employees to volunteer with local non-profit organizations. And beginning in 2008, each Junk in the Trunk employee will receive a subsidy to cover public transportation and bicycle maintenance costs. All drivers are trained on techniques to lower carbon emissions, and are educated on how to reduce carbon emissions at home as well.

As part of its social responsibility, Junk in the Trunk also provides free junk removal to several non-profit organizations, and free recycling and trash removal service at local community events. The company will soon begin working with local organizations to create alternative recycling opportunities such as paint re-use programs, electronics recycling, and community compost piles.
