New Reference Book Provides Comprehensive Information on North Carolina's Cities and Counties.

Information Publications is expanding its State and Municipal Profiles Series to include North Carolina. Now available, North Carolina Cities, Towns & Counties includes detailed statistical profiles for every incorporated municipality and county in North Carolina, including Population & Demographics, Crime, Local Government, Housing & Construction, Municipal and County Finance & Property Tax Rates, Public Libraries, and School Districts. The book is available is paperback ($95, ISBN 978-0-941391-20-7) and CD-ROM ($95, ISBN 978-0-941391-21-4) editions. The full data set is also available to license. More information is available online at http://www.informationpublications.com/item.asp?n=nc07pa.

The California-based reference publisher, which also publishes statistical profiles for several other states, is responding to North Carolina's rapid growth in the last decade and the need for a one-stop source for government data. "There's a lot of information available out there," says Publisher Eric Weiner, "but it's scattered all over the place, and much of it is hard to find. No one has brought together the data from these different sources all in one volume."

Founded in 1980, Information Publications publishes two series of reference books. The State and Municipal Profiles Series includes the Almanac of the 50 States, as well as municipal and county profile books on California, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. The American Profiles Series consists of statistical sourcebooks for Asian, Black, and Hispanic Americans. Weiner says that the books are designed to be useful many types of readers, such as students, reference librarians, attorneys, researchers, government officials, journalists, and real estate professionals. "By bringing such a diverse set of data together in one volume, we save our readers the time and expense of gathering the data themselves."
