Sep 03, 2007 – The National Trust has warned that it is "incredibly hard" to predict patterns of coastline erosion but did say that "we are definitely going to get more" if recent weather patterns continue.
"It's more serious in some areas of the country than others in that some areas of the country have softer coastlines - either sands, or gravels, or clays or muds, rather than a harder coast like sandstone or granite," revealed Adrian Woodhall, coast risk assessment manager at the National Trust. "The south-east is going to be eroded faster than the west and the north on just the sheer nature of the coastline." Properties which sit on the coastline are in danger of being destroyed or dropping in value as a result of erosion. Even though these buildings are often very desirable, many owners will be desperate to make a quick property sale rather than sit on what is potentially a ticking time bomb. Mr Woodhall went on to hint that some owners may believe that their property is safe but a disaster may be around the corner. "The trouble is that it's incredibly hard to predict what will happen. We know we've got a soft coastline, we know that sea level rises are getting higher, we know that we're going to have more storm events in the future," he said. "This summer was a good indication – if we get more like this… we are definitely going to get more erosion." Fast property purchase expert Julian King says this is the last thing people with waterside properties need to hear. "With a sharp increase in repossessions, interest rates due to increase a further quarter per cent, the prospect of flooding at the forefront of the homeowners mind and a severe lack of buyers, the prospect of their property falling off the map must be devastating. "The notion of owning your dream home by the water but fearing that it could be lost to nature any day is of the utmost concern," says Mr King. Julian King is a director of National Homebuyers, the UK's leading fast property purchase firm, guaranteeing to make an offer on any property surveyed, assisting homeowners who require a quick sale for whatever reason. # # # National Homebuyers guarantee to make an offer to buy your property, residential or commercial, regardless of its condition or location.
