Aug. 31, 2007 - PRLog -- The event will take place at the Howard University Continuing Education in Silver Spring, Maryland from 4:30 to 8:30 PM.These new Black writers are challenging readers with topics that big name, establishment publishers would believe difficult to promote or financially justify to their boards of directors.

Dr. Rey O. Harris author of Motivational Morsels comments, "African American writers are leaping over the roadblocks and restrictions that traditional publishers put on Black books. The industry has purposely stymied the productivity of Black writers, citing that minorities don't read therefore don't buy books. But times are changing."

A sampling of the authors previously presenting their works include: Dr. Rey Harris, Motivational Morsels ; Cary T. Faison, Jr., White Slaves and Indians in the Family; William Powell, Valkyrie; Theresa Grant, Hope and Desire ; Stafford L. Battle, co-author of AFROCyberSpace: 1000+ African American Websites That Will Change Your World; and Leutrell "Mike" Osborne, Black Man in the CIA.

Stafford Battle, a digital designer at Howard University and co-author of AFROCyberspace, added, "It's great to see so many new faces publishing books by traditional and nontraditional means. We don't need New York mega publishers. On demand production services and the Internet allows small books to create big names in American literature based on talent and writing skill; and not solely on profit margins for foreign investors."

Black Author Showcase™ has been designed by 22nd Century Press to assist authors in creating, preparing, writing, and marketing their works. Its’ aim is to connect authors with other literary professionals, readers and to utilize the latest advances in digital publishing and disseminate this information in the spirit of cooperative economics, shared knowledge and collective works and to reach the African American market with writing and publishing education, news and information.
