Icelandair was presented with the first ever Transport Award on August 21st for the company’s pioneering work in developing aviation transport to and from Iceland.
Minister of Transport Kristján Möller presented Jón Karl Ólafsson, the CEO of
Icelandair Group CEO, with the award at a special ceremony in recognition of the groundbreaking achievements of Icelandair in the field of aviation in Iceland. Starting from this year, the Transport Award will be awarded annually to an individual or company that has made an outstanding contribution to any area of Icelandic transport.
Icelandair recently announced it would commence flights to Toronto (http://www.icelandair.com) from early next year, opening up a second air route to Canada for passengers from Iceland and mainland Europe. The Icelandic national carrier already operates flights to Halifax in
Canada and is considering further Canadian destinations such as Montreal, Winnipeg, Ottawa and St. John.
Icelandair also introduced a new fare structure allowing passengers to book one way flights and to choose the level of service and ticket flexibility on each flight segment. The Icelandic national carrier is currently offering flights to Iceland for as little as £70 from the UK including taxes.
Icelandair serves 23 destinations across Europe and North America (http://www.icelandair.co.uk) from its hub in Keflavik, Iceland. The airline also offers a free 7 night stopover in Iceland on any transatlantic flight, giving passengers a unique chance to visit Europe’s hottest travel destination on the way.
