Mayor to support the 5K/Fun Run
SARASOTA, Fla., August 22, 2007— ABC 7 Sarasota Marathon Grouper Run, a three-year-old Sarasota, Florida-based organization, announced the appointment of Mayor Lou Ann Palmer as honorary chairman of the 2008 ABC 7 Sarasota Marathon and Half Marathon to take place on March 2, 2008.
“I am proud to be involved with the ABC 7 Sarasota Marathon,” said Sarasota Mayor Lou Ann Palmer. “It is of great value to the health and fitness of the Sarasota community and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”

“With its flat, fast and scenic USATF-certified course and average temperature of 68 degrees, the Sarasota Marathon is one of Florida’s best distance running opportunities,”
Last year’s marathon exceeded expectations with more than 2,100 runners representing 42 states and 9 countries. Over 500 volunteers helped make the event possible and joined the hundreds of Sarasota residents that lined the streets and the Ringling Bridge to cheer on the runners.
The 2008 ABC 7 Sarasota Marathon marks the third year that Sarasota has attracted runners from around the world to enjoy the scenic, palm tree-lined route over the Ringling Bridge on Sarasota Bay.
