Excerpt from the book:
"My mind worked overtime trying to imagine what Russia would be like. We would be flying over the Iron Curtain. Would I be able to see it? All the news we saw was of Cold War and military parades; stern-faced men stood in freezing conditions watching huge missiles, tanks, and jack booted soldiers. They threatened us with nuclear bombs and generally didn’t like us. I summed it up in my mind. It was grey – Iron Curtain grey, and it was cold, bloody cold! ‘Paint a rosy picture, why don’t you?’ I thought, pressing my nose against the Austrian Airlines Boeing 707 window.”
