ORLANDO HISPANIC FILM FESTIVAL PREMIERES DURING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH.
Orlando, FL – The annual Orlando Hispanic Film Festival (OHFF) announces its first year's festival dates beginning Friday, October 12th through Sunday, October 14th, 2007.
The Festival will host an exclusive premiere, in partnership with the Orange County Library System, by presenting a public viewing of the documentary film, “Dream Havana” Thursday September 13th at 7PM at the Orlando Public Library downtown, 101 E. Central Blvd. Orlando, FL 32801 407.835.7323.
In August of 1994, more than 33,000 Cubans attempted to escape the island by sea. Two writers, friends since adolescence, are faced with a choice: continue struggling with the hardships of the island or brave the open water on a homemade raft. Ernesto Santana chooses Cuba. Jorge Mota chooses the Sea. This is the story of their struggles, their successes and the friendship that binds them.
Dream Havana’s producer/director, Gary Marks, will share his inspiration and insights behind the making of the film, as a special guest of the Orlando Hispanic Film Festival.
James Schoepflin, Founder & Executive Director of the Festival, is delighted to encourage and support independent filmmakers from around the world. The goal of the festival is to establish a platform that recognizes independent filmmakers who integrate the Hispanic culture in their work or whose creative team includes talent of Hispanic descent. Films, documentaries and screenplays will be awarded in various categories.
The Festival is open to the public. At the OHFF the audience will have the opportunity to actively participate and vote for their choice of the film to receive the Audience Film Award.
The Orlando Hispanic Film Festival will continue the experience year round through its Educational Reach Program.
