With the Never Say Die Attitude, the graduating cadets from the BITS Pilani TMI Induri collaboration firmly believe that the art of the sailor is to leave nothing to chance and that a smooth sea never made a good sailor.

PRLog (Press Release)Aug 21, 2007 – BITS Pilani in collaboration with Tolani Maritime Institute has been conducting the BS Marine Engineering program for the past nine years in the picturesque 100 acre Induri campus with state of the art facilities which include a mock up ship, power plant, Ship Maneuvering Simulator as well as Full Mission Engine Room Simulator.

On 18th August 2007 a batch of 124 cadets which included 8 girls who have successfully completed the BS Marine Engineering program in July 2007 were awarded the certificates in a colourful function at Induri by the Guest of Honour Prof L K Maheshwari Vice Chancellor BITS Pilan. In his speech Prof Maheshwari urged the cadets to strive for excellence and bring pride and glory to their alma mater as well as nation.

Dr Sujata Naik TMI Chairperson congratulated the graduating cadets and urged them to achieve excellence in their career. Others who spoke on this occasion include Principal Prof BK Saxena, Programme Chair Prof IK Basu and Provost Captain Raj Razdan

Chairman Varuna Award Winner Dr N P Tolani's Gold Medal for best All Round Performance was bagged by Vinodh R while the Silver Medal went to Shivam H Sarawagi. The Anglo Eastern Cash Award for Academic Excellence Rs 11,000/- was given to Samar Rustagi, Rs 5000/- to Akhil Jaiswal and Rs 3,000/- to Dhawal Tandon.

Ahmedali Abbas Lokhandwala received the coveted Vasant J Seth Memorial Gold Medal for Best Academic Performance, the Chellaram Cash Award of Rs 10,000/- and 3 individual medals for standing first in various course categories. Amit Kumar Abhinav Madan and Prana Verma won medals for their excellent performance in Internship.

The Manbhaw Trust Scholarship for Girls cadets was bagged by Divya Iyer, Mandira Nayak and Rashmi. A special award for Innovation / Design was given to the twin brother cadets Gautam Kumar and Sidharth Kumar.

The success of the collaboration rests in the fact that all the six batches of BS Marine Engineering cadets who have graduated so far have had 100% placement offers from leading shipping companies. The recruiting companies for the class of 2007 include Schlumberger, Anglo Eastern Ship Management, Sanmar Shipping, K C Maritime, Barber Ship Management, Seaspan Ship Management, Tolani Shipping, Fleet Management, Nortrans Shipping & Trading, NYK, Chevron Texaco, Elite Mariners, Chellaram Shipping, Tee Kay Tankers, Searland, Schudi & Eitzen, MMS Maritime, ASP Ship Management, OMCI, Mediterranean Shipping Company, Mitsui OSK, NOL Singapore, Shell Ship Management, V Ships, Executive Ship Management, Great Eastern Shipping, Essar Shiipng, Varun Shipping and Qatar Shipping.

The broad based integrated and interdisciplinary approach of education at BITS, Pilani strong in fundamentals and rich in analytical tools has given the graduating cadets ample opportunities to acquire Resource mobilization acumen, Negotiation Skills, Information Skills, Problem Solving Skills, Decision Making Skills and Communication Skills apart from Ability for Leadership, Time, Stress and Crisis Management. With patriotism as their drum, culture as armor, knowledge as weapon, ethics as guidepath, there is no doubt that these cadets will march forward with confidence, perform with enthusiasm and set the standards of seafaring glory.
