California State University, Dominguez Hills remains one of the most diverse universities in the West. Once again, U.S. News & World Report’s annual “America’s Best Colleges” ranking recognizes Dominguez Hills as being one of the most racially diverse universities in the West offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Dominguez Hills has received the ranking since the mid-1990s.
“Dominguez Hills is very proud to be one of the most diverse campuses in the West,” said Vice-Provost Jamie Dote-Kwan. “We are bringing together students from different backgrounds and different experiences who then share their perspective with each other both in and out of the classroom. This interaction broadens their educational experience and better prepares them to meet the challenges of a global workforce — as a university we represent the face of this global society.”
To determine its “Racial Diversity” category ranking, the magazine devised a 0.0 to 1.0 diversity index, with 1.0 being most diverse, that factored a university’s overall mix of major racial groups — American Indian, Native Alaskan, Asian American, Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanics and white. Dominguez Hills received a 0.70. The largest minority group on campus, according to the magazine’s findings, is Hispanic, at 39% of the student population. Four other universities, all in California, were listed in the “Racial Diversity: Universities-
Dominguez Hills was also among 116 universities listed in the “Best Universities-
“While being included is an accomplishment, there is always room for improvement,”
Considered a major resource that college-bound individuals use to determine what university they want to attend, the annual rankings will be published in its Aug. 27 issue, on newsstands Aug. 20 and available online at http://www.usnews.com/
