Wishing Flower Author, Mosetta Penick Phillips-Cermak, enjoys "degrees of separation" from notables

Mosetta Penick Phillips-Cermak, Ph. D. is the author of "The Wishing Flower", published by PM Moon Publishers, Limited.  It is a delightful original children's fairy tale designed to improve children's sense of security and self-esteem.  She also enjoys several "degrees of separation" as the sister of Eric Penick.

"Eric is my baby brother," stated Dr. Penick Phillips-Cermak. "He went to Gilmore Academy, in Gate Mills, Ohio for High School, and then to Notre Dame.  I always wanted him to go to The University of Notre Dame.  It is where I wanted to go to college, but they didn't allow women in those day".

Eric Penick is famous for his landmark 85-yard touchdown run in the third quarter of the Notre Dame game that effectively ended USC's 23-game unbeaten streak in 1973, and denied the Trojans a second-consecutive national title.  He was drafted by and played for the Denver Broncos.

As a player for former head coach Ara Parseghian, the second most winning coach for Notre Dame, Eric  participated in a golf outing to benefit the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation.  The foundation is helping to find a cure for a rare genetic disorder called Niemann-Pick Type C Disease.

"Yes, I did meet Coach Parseghian, back when Eric played for him," said Dr. Mosetta.

The Penick family is also distantly related to Ross Browner, Defensive End for Notre Dame 1973-77. He won the Lombardi Trophy as the nation's best lineman and the Maxwell as the nation's best player. Browner  played nine years with the Cincinnati Bengals and one with the Green Bay Packers in the National Football League.

Another interesting "degree of separation" is that Eric Penick, as a rookie running back for the Denver Broncos in 1975 was a regular visitor to the home of Condoleezza Rice, the US's current secretary of state.  At the time Rice lived with her parents in Denver, where her father was Associate Dean and Head of Minority Affairs at the University of Denver.
