IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DC NATIVE IS HITTING IT BIG
"Why I Keep U A Secret", written by Lamont Carey, is a collection of 58 poems about love, lust, relationships, and the erotic. The book's title is a reflection of the softer side of Carey's spokenword image. His dramatic performances and CD have given him the reputation as the voice of the streets, but "Why I Keep U A Secret" undoubtedly shows that there's always more to the story.
From this compelling collection, we learn and remember how far we have come in understanding ourselves. Carey offers his observations about love from several perspectives, colored through the soul of a powerful imagination. This is a must read! His writing brings you up close and personal to a passion so vivid, your palm prints will be engraved on the pages. The reader will have the opportunity to eavesdrop behind the closed doors of complicated relationships, and the chance to visit the lives of couples who continuously fall in love, lust, and confusion.
Carey was born in Washington D.C., but raised in prison. While incarcerated, the arts helped him to refocus and set new goals. He began writing in 1994. To date, he's written several novels, screenplays, and children's books. "Why I Keep U A Secret" is Lamont Carey's first published release, and his formal introduction to poetry.
Carey hopes that his new book captures a new audience-- an audience that doesn't usually read poetry. His primary interest is to introduce himself and his art to people who don't feel that they have a voice. His refreshing and insightful voice appeals to a wide range of people. "Why I Keep U A Secret" is a talented writer's unique expression of love in all of its forms.
Lamont Carey debuted his spokenword CD, "Imagine", in Winter 2005. “Imagine” focuses on a variety of inner city issues and touches on education, violence, and relationships. He has toured the country and performed in many clubs and spokenword contests. He was the co-host of the Freestyle Fridays show with Mark Thompson on XM Radio Channel 169, The Power. He was named Poet of the Year for 2005 by Dreams in Motion. He crowned community poet of the year (2007) the National Underground SpokenWord and Poetry Awards.
You will see a lot of Lamont Carey in the coming year. He was a featured performer on Russell Simmon's Def Poetry Jam, which will aired in early 2007. Carey even successfully donned his thespian hat in season 4 of HBO's popular series, "The Wire".
