"It's been a busy time for gardeners the last few weeks, and with the heat wave wilting everybody and everything, we felt it was appropriate to extend the deadline," said Rick Cox, The Township's Director of Community Services.
"We've had a number of nominations received so far. I'm throwing out a challenge to neighbourhoods to nominate themselves, because we haven't had any in that category yet."
Nominees for the Awards of Merit are considered in residential, commercial and neighbourhood categories. Nomination forms are available for pick-up at the Township Office, the Cultural Centre, various locations around town, or they can be downloaded from the Events page on the Township's website (http://www.minden.on.ca/
The Horticultural Society is arranging the judges and will carry out the judging of the nominees in all three categories in August. Residents are encouraged to nominate people or businesses and/or hand out nomination forms to others.
The Awards of Merit are part of the Every Yard Counts campaign to encourage all residents and businesses in the Township to recognize their role in keeping Minden Hills looking its best.
