PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 03, 2007 -
My Fingerprints, LLC of Edmond, Oklahoma, was named a winner as the creator of one of 2007’s Best Products in the category of Child Safety, honored by the iParenting Media Awards. The award goes to the company’s Activity Kit entitled “My Fingerprints…Go Hopping Down the Bunny Trail.”

Law enforcement officers say that recording a child’s fingerprints is one of the most vital steps parents can take, yet the process is often intimidating for parents and can be frightening for children.  This new product is a unique and creative approach to this important action, designed to make it simple and fun to record fingerprints of children ages 3 to 10.

Youngsters read a story and practice adding their fingerprints to the illustrations throughout the book in each kit. On the last page, they create a record of their unique fingerprints, which parents can place in a special matte frame, included in the kit, and display in the home as a keepsake.

A TIME-SAVING ADVANTAGE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT
One police officer noted that it is a huge, time-saving advantage to authorities when parents can provide this type of information in the event a child is missing.

Although many parents are familiar with the availability of DNA collection and testing, often it is more important to have a record of a child’s fingerprints, because they are much quicker, easier, and more efficient for law enforcement to use to determine if he or she was in a certain location or riding in a car, for example.

Each activity kit includes a book, non-toxic ink, safety tips, a matte frame to display a child’s fingerprints and recent photograph, and instructions on how to collect a child’s DNA using common items found in most homes.

The product was conceived and developed by Gaylene Murphy, who started out making one-of-a-kind gifts for the children of friends and family.  She received so much positive feedback for her unique idea that she decided to create a version for commercial production and distribution. In addition to “My Fingerprints…Go Hopping Down the Bunny Trail,”she also offers two other activity kits: “My Fingerprints… Dance a Ballet” and “My Fingerprints…Take A Cattle Drive.”

Detailed instructions on how to properly record a child’s fingerprints are included in each activity kit.  For instance, kids’ fingerprints should not be taken the way adult fingerprints are recorded, with the back and forth rolling motion that has been seen on countless television programs.

My Fingerprints, LLC has also created a coloring book and produces fingerprint kits with their child-friendly designs and artwork for police departments, civic groups and community organizations.
