eBay invites all Indians to celebrate the Spirit of India!

Mumbai, August 2, 2007: eBay India, India’s leading online marketplace, is celebrating India’s sixtieth anniversary of Independence with a unique campaign – Spirit of India. Spirit of India, is targeted to all Indians who would like to celebrate this historic milestone by owning an item of historical interest. The Spirit of India campaign, a unique showcase of exciting memorabilia and items of historical interest alongside a range of things truly Indian, starts today and will continue until August 16, 2007.

The eBay Spirit of India campaign (www.ebay.in/independence) displays many hundreds of products of historic interest and has a motif of a torch flaming with the Indian tricolours. Divided into four main themes, the campaign is sure to ignite the patriotism of every Indian. The “Collector’s Paradise” theme showcases rare coins & notes as well as pre-independence era stamps.  The “Independence Memorabilia” theme showcases rare Gandhi & Nehru memorabilia as well as old records. The “India Pride” lists art, sculpture, handicrafts & ethnic apparel. The “Classics Corner” theme showcases classic books and movies.

It is in honour of this attribute that we have created a special section of listings to provide an opportunity to everyone to get a piece of the India they love.”

A host of sellers have listed historic items on eBay. Mr. B G Tonde, one of the eBay sellers, has philatelic experience of around 30 years and has listed ancient coins and documents. Mr. Tonde said, “I am delighted that eBay has created this section. As I am an avid collector of rare Indian coins and documents, I will be listing these precious pieces on sale on eBay for all those who share my passion. I do hope Indians come enthusiastically forward to grab a slice of history.”
