“Too young for a Seed-My shortie and Me”

On Friday August 3, 2007, at 4:30 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at located at the Rose Center 101 Ashmun Street in New Haven, Connecticut CTRIBAT Institute for Social Development will continue its the summer pilot:  CTRIBAT Leadership Retreat 2007 “Total Response.”

An interactive workshop/lecture will be conducted on Family Planning “Too young for a Seed-My shortie and Me.” This is the final summer series of three workshops that have been designed by CTRIBAT to address the issues that confront Our Youth and to give them the proper tools to cope with life in an Urban Environment.

Guest Speakers will include:
Officer Shafiq R. F. Abdussabur- Executive Director CTRIBAT
Clinton Robinson- CTRIBAT Director of Development
Erin Livensparger- Community Educator/Trainer Planned Parenthood of Connecticut

This workshop is only open to select groups. A parent or guardian is required to attend this event.

CTRIBAT Institute for Social Development is most noted for it success in reducing gun violence among urban youth.The CTRIBAT 2006 Summer Leadership Retreat “Front Line” targeted the population of At-Risk male youth ages 8 years-old to 17 years-old and created the conditions that led to the 400% reduction of Firearm Related Incidents in the Urban Sector of New Haven Connecticut known as the Dixwell Avenue-a historical African American community adjacent to Yale University.

In May of 2007, CTRIBAT and Planned Parenthood of Connecticut formed a partnership to address the many difficulties teens face while growing up and how to help them make good decisions regarding their sexuality.  Parenthood of Connecticut will assist CTRIBAT directors and staff by providing insights and best practices for discussing healthy sexuality with adolescents.  This programming will be provided for young male and female students as well as their parents.  Students will also take regular tours of the New Haven health center and to familiarizing them with the services available to them and their peers.
