Mission, Kan.---August 1, 2007---Each year thousands of people across the country participate in Team in Training, an event where runners, walkers, cyclists, and triathletes participate in marathons, triathlons, and century rides to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Team in Training events are held all over the country.  The funds raised from these events are used by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education, and patient services.

Since its founding in 1949, the LLS has invested more than $550.8 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers.

Individuals who participate in Team in Training help the LLS raise much-needed funds.  One such participant, Katie Winsor of Mission, is currently conducting a cell phone fundraising drive to raise money for LLS as a participant in Team in Training.  She is collecting used and unwanted cell phones that will help her meet her fundraising goal.  A collection box has been set up at Hyvee, located at 6655 Marway, Mission, Kan.  The public is asked to drop off cell phones at that location.

Winsor has partnered with PaceButler Corporation of Edmond, Okla. to help with the cell phone drive.  PaceButler is a leader in the cell phone recycling industry.  They pay for each shipment of cell phones received.  Any that cannot be paid for are recycled responsibly.

Cell phones and their batteries contain harmful toxins and chemicals that can be damaging to the environment if they end up in landfills.  By donating cell phones to organizations like the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, people can help to ensure that their phones do not end up in landfills.

Winsor will be collecting cell phones until October.  Donations are tax deductible.  For more information, she can be reached at (913) 709-3089.
