So we have now started a great new service to save lots of time and money – Repeat Dispensing

If the patient is suitable – the GP will send us 6 -12months prescriptions which will be held at the pharmacy.

These can be simply collected or delivered when required.

Never run out of medicines again…

Pharmakarma offers a Repeat Dispensing Service – your medicines ready when you are.

A repeatable prescription will be more convenient for you as you will not need to contact your doctor each time it needs to be repeated.

If you have any further questions regarding this service, please ask your pharmacist or doctor.

What is repeat dispensing?

Repeat dispensing means patients having medicines dispensed in several instalments direct from the pharmacy, rather than going back to your GP each time.

How does it work?

You will receive a repeatable prescription, which gives details of how many instalments the prescription contains. For example it will instruct the pharmacist to dispense an instalment each month for 6 months before you have to o back to the doctor for a review.

Who is this service for?

This service is best suited to people with a long term condition such as asthma or diabetes where the medication they use is likely to remain the same for periods of 6 or 12 months. You can discuss whether this service is appropriate for you with your GP.

What are the benefits for me?

Improved convenience – you do not need to visit the GP surgery every time you need further supplies of medicines.

You’re less likely to run out of medicines – you can collect* your medicines from the pharmacy even if the surgery is closed

*We can also deliver prescriptions subject to status

Do I have to pay for this service?

This is an NHS service that is free of charge to you. However, patients required to pay the prescription charge will have to pay this each time an instalment of medicines is dispensed.



How do I sign up?

Step One

Talk to a member of the pharmacy team to find out how the repeat dispensing service works in this pharmacy.


Step Two

Complete the form attached to this email and send in or bring it to us, along with the repeat prescription form. We will send this to your GP who will decide if you are appropriate for this service. The GP may want to discuss this with you before making a decision.


Step Three

This pharmacy will receive your repeatable prescription with instalments for 6 or 12 months. We will dispense your prescription at the pharmacy so it is ready to be collected when you come in, or delivered subject to status*.


Step Four

At the end of the 6 or 12 month period you will need to go back to your GP for a review and if appropriate another 6 or 12 months of repeat prescriptions will be issued.



To make sure you get the most out of this service, there will be dialogue between the GP practice and the pharmacy to ensure you get the most out of your medicines.
