The manager of the property, Khun Ten, noted “All of those involved in running Gecko Villa are delighted that we are now able to cater for larger groups or families who wish to enjoy a holiday in the real heart of Thailand, away from the beaten tourist path. We can now ensure a great experience for all guests - whether they be a honeymoon couple, a group of friends or a large family on vacation. I have to confess that most guests do not really use the kitchen, as we prepare Thai food for them daily, but it does make it much easier for us to teach visitors how to make Thai and Isaan specialties, as many guests want to learn how to make Thai food.”
The new bedroom permits groups of up to 6 adults - or larger families - to stay at this stand alone Thailand holiday home, spread across the revised total of 3 king bedded rooms. The vacation villa also boasts a spacious living and dining room, a walled garden, and a delightful private pool looking out over the surrounding rice fields, sugar cane plantations, pasture and woodland.
The kitchen building effectively houses both a fully-equipped western kitchen for guest use (with a large dual door American style refrigerator and freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, bread maker, larder, full glassware, plates, crockery, cutlery, etc) and an additional Thai kitchen, (with an oven, 4 head gas hob, a powerful wok burner, sinks, etc).
At the same time, Gecko Villa has redesigned its web site to include an online availability checker that permits potential guests to see at a glance which dates the accommodation may be booked and when it is not free for rent. New sections include a full and helpful Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, as well as helpful travel links to Thai car rental and recommended Thai hotel booking sites.
Gecko Villa was launched in 2000 as a sustainable tourism project, funded by sponsors who believed that permitting the local Thai villagers to manage and operate their own vacation rental business would not only generate local employment in one of Thailand’s poorest regions, but would also prevent the typical migration of families to Bangkok. After nearly seven years, the project continues to support local families, with all revenues being retained locally by the community, whilst offering guests a unique experience in the heartlands of Thailand’s Northeast (or Isaan), near Udon Thani.
