Struggling Mother of Five Finds Solace and Liberation in Working from Home

PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 01, 2007 – A home-based, mompreneur on a mission combines her computer knowledge and love of art and photography to transform ceramic tiles into pieces of beautiful home décor - known as “Style By The Tile”.  

“Style By The Tile” creates custom, ceramic, stone and glass tile murals and kitchen backsplashes, as well as, fine art gifts and home décor.  The founder, Chandra Torres, developed the new business to overcome the challenges of balancing a large family, including one child with special needs, and meet the demands of being a working mother.

Life had always been a constant struggle for the working mother of five, but all that struggle was taken to a new level three years ago when one of her son’s was diagnosed with a form of high functioning Autism called Asperger’s Syndrome.  

Although the diagnosis was not dire, it was still another challenge that she and the family would have to take head on.  The numerous psychiatric appointments, testing and extra parent-teacher conferences that followed started to take their toll.  She became overwhelmed with work, family responsibilities, and the individualized attention her son required. “My son is not accustomed to change, therefore, he would constantly have meltdowns in school and I would continuously have to leave work to pick him up,” she said.  Mrs. Torres realized her family and job was suffering from the lack of attention she was capable of providing them due to limited time so she began to search for a solution.

Two years of research resulted in an answer that would allow Mrs. Torres to gain financial stability, while doing something she enjoyed, in the comfort of her own home.  Utilizing nothing but her tax return, she purchased all of the supplies and equipment needed to start her business; “That money was needed for so many other things but I knew it was my only chance to change my life for better”, she said.

“Style By The Tile has enabled me to meet the demands of my family in a way that I was unable to when I worked outside of my home”.  Mrs. Torres adds that doing something that she loves is invaluable and her determination to change has proven to be a lesson she will absolutely convey to her children.  

With a minimal budget for advertising and a continuing struggle for recognition, Mrs. Torres carries on, “trying to beautify Omaha, one tile at a time”.  She even sent a framed mural to the “Ellen Degeneres Show” for her ‘Viewer Art’ segment and has yet to hear a reply, but she still holds hope for this coming season.

Customers of “Style By The Tile” will find that Mrs. Torres’s murals add a spectacular touch of décor to residential and commercial areas.  She has an impressive selection of artwork and photographs from which to choose but customers may also use their own personal photograph or company logo.  The murals can be installed almost anywhere, with shower walls and kitchen backsplashes being the most popular.
