The HBCU Anthology Preview Benefit, the official HBCU Anthology launch party, and Tour are three events that serve as a three-part philanthropic effort, presented to the public by the Save America First Foundation. All of these events will serve as the long-term and annual initiative to promote awareness of philanthropy at Historically Black Colleges and University’s.
Recent studies have been publicized in the media, that indicate that African-Americans do not give back to their alma maters, however, this project will allow alumni of HBCU’s to give back to HBCU’s annually through an annual anthology preview benefit, the anthology launch, and HBCU homecoming book sale tour. Each of these events will be partnered with one HBCU per a year, and divided upon three chosen departments at the given institution.
The Anthology: Soul Stirring: The HBCU Anthology Of Literary Works- Volume I, is in its debut trial and was created by HBCU alumni, current students and staff. This project was launched in 2006. The anthology is a collection of Poems, letters, stories, journal entries, and literary works that reflect people’s experiences at HBCU’s. Mashawnda Dowell, serves as the first volume’s publisher and editor. To date the anthology has collected stories from about 50 writers.
These writers have written works that can be divided within the following categories:
Campus Observation & Reflections Romance Observations & Reflections
Professional Observations & Reflections
Family Life Observations & Reflections
Spiritual Observations & Reflections
In 2007, the anthology will be presented to the public by Save America First Foundation, and self-published by Dowell Publishing, and the proceeds from the books’ events and sales, will go to our non-profit beneficiaries.
