Every yard in Minden Hills contributes to the overall appearance of our community, and a new campaign has been launched to promote the idea. Every Yard Counts is a partnership between the Minden & District Horticultural Society and the Township of Minden Hills to encourage and recognize residents and businesses in our community who contribute to the beautification of our Township.
"Everyone can contribute to keep our community looking good" said Rick Cox, Director of Community Services. "Even if you're no green thumb, by cleaning up litter in and near your yard or planting a tree you are doing your part."
Building on the work done by the Minden Merchants Revitalization Committee with their "Get Proud" project, the Every Yard Counts campaign hopes to spread the idea that residents and businesses have a role to play in keeping the Township attractive to visitors. Cox commented that "the idea is one that I hope will 'grow' into a more comprehensive community beautification initiative for next year and build towards the Sesquicentennial of Minden in 2009."
In addition to the publicity campaign, nominations are being accepted for Every Yard Counts Awards of Merit. Awards will be given in residential, commercial and neighbourhood categories. Nomination forms are available at the Township office, the Cultural Centre and various locations around town, and must be dropped off at the Township office. The nomination deadline is Friday August 3.
The Horticultural Society is arranging the judges and will carry out the judging of the nominees in all three categories in August. Residents are encouraged to nominate people or businesses and/or hand out nomination forms to others.
