For beneficiaries to qualify for the extra help program by the Medicare, the following is required:
- Income must be limited to $15, 315 for one individual or $20, 535 for a couple that are married and living together. Even if your loved ones may still have a higher annual income, they may still become eligible for benefits and receive some help with their premiums every month, deductibles per annum and co-payments for prescription.
Income may be higher than according to stipulated if the individual or spouse support some of their family members who are living with them, have some earnings generated from work or lives in Hawaii or Alaska
- Resources must only be limited to $11,710 for one individual or $23,410 for a couple that is married and living together. Resources may be identified as the individual or couple’s stock and bonds or bank accounts.
The Medicare program does not count house and car of an individual or couple as resources.
To apply for the extra help benefits, the Social Security has developed an online application process wherein third parties like family members or caregivers can fill up to assist the Medicare beneficiaries apply and eventually, receive their benefits.
