Broadband comparison site Broadband Genie comments on news that BT has introduced a new credit card which can reduce customers’ phone and broadband bills.
BT Credit Card accounts are linked to BT customers’ telephone and broadband accounts, so every time the card is used for a retail purchase, the cardholder will be rewarded with money off their BT bill automatically.
For the first £250 of spend on the card each month, customers will earn one pence for every £2 of purchases, with no minimum spend required. Above £250 of card purchases per month, customers will earn double the discount on their BT bill: one penny for every additional £1 spent. Each BT Credit Card account holder can earn a discount off their BT bill of up to £75 per year.
The BT Credit Card offers 0% pa on balance transfers for twelve months, and 0% pa on card purchases for three months, reverting to a typical rate of 16.9 per cent APR.
Broadband Genie CEO Philip Wilkinson says: “This is certainly an innovative idea. But as with all credit cards, unless you pay off your balance every month, once the three-month 0% offer on new purchases expires, you would be well advised to switch to a cheaper card if you are going to carry on spending.”
