If you’re in to online dating and are looking for a relationship it’s important to understand the role of chatting in online relationships.  Getting to know anyone; be it a prospective partner or a friend requires us to talk.  That’s how we learn about each others temperaments, attitudes, values and interests.

Online dating is no different.  Chatting with your partner frequently before meeting up in person is a good idea.  It will help you put things in proper perspective and give you an inkling of what to expect if and when you decide to meet and take things to the next step.

Though it is a relatively impersonal mode of communication, the role of chatting in online relationship cannot be undermined.  It has conversational value and if utilized properly will save you the heartbreak of getting to know “this isn’t it” well in advance.

Chatting is the bridge that connects partners in an online relationship.  If you’re a good conversationalist, it comes to you naturally.  If not, make an effort.  Typing your thoughts in to a box is a tad different from talking face to face.  It would be better to do a voice chat if you have the facility.  It helps you to read between the lines and is a less tedious way when compared to typing.  Changes in tone can reflect a person’s line of thought even before you’ve met.

Use your time online well.  Many times, people prefer to crack a joke or talk about some light hearted issues the first time they chat.  If humor is being used, be careful about the “type” of humor you use.  You don’t want to end up offending anybody.

You may begin with talking about your work; families, educational backgrounds, but don’t forget to touch upon serious issues.  It’s better to be upfront about things that matter.

If you have a web cam it makes sense to use it.  It makes the chatting experience almost like being there in person.  When you have technology to simplify things, why not use it?

Pepper your chat with little incidents from your day to day life. It makes the chat time interesting and adds a personal touch too.  Avoid cribbing and complaining and don’t loose sight of the objective of the chat.

Pick your words carefully and enjoy “getting to know” each other online!
