PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 05, 2007 -
Long thought to be the domain of adrenalin-junkies and 30-something men, adventure travel is actually dominated by women, according to the Adventure Travel Industry Survey recently released by the Adventure Travel Trade Association. According to the survey, a surprising 52% of adventure travelers are women.

So what does this mean for the adventure travel industry? "We're constantly evolving," says Karen Cleary, tour manager for Boundless Journeys, a Vermont-based operator of small-group adventure trips. "People ― women and men ― are seeking meaningful experiences when they travel."

With Boundless Journeys, the "adventure" might be a remote 5-day trek to Machu Picchu, or it could be meeting the scientists of the Serengeti Lion Project. The rare opportunity to witness one of Bhutan's lively festivals is an adventure for some, while others immerse themselves in nature ― literally ― swimming with stingless jellyfish in Palau.

Boundless Journeys offers 30 worldwide itineraries that will appeal to anyone who is reasonably fit and has an adventurous spirit. Here are a few that are available in the coming months:

Iceland: The Land of Fire and Ice; June 17-24, 8 days, $4595 per person:
Discover spectacular hiking trails and scenic waterways in a land where the primeval forces of volcanoes and glaciers rule.

Vancouver Island: Pacific Rim Kayaking and Hiking; July 15-20, 6 days, $2495 per person:

Peru: Trekking the Hidden Inca Trail; July 22-August 1, 11 days, $3495 per
person:
Trekking past stunning Andean peaks, turquoise glacial lakes, and remote Quechuan settlements into Machu Picchu; this is Peru at its most authentic.

Utah & Arizona: The Grand Canyon, Bryce, and Zion; September 3-6, 6 days,
$2295 per person:
Hikes into our guides' favorite hidden slot canyons, an award-winning bed and breakfast, and a special meal prepared by a cowboy poet are part of Boundless Journeys' unique approach to the desert Southwest.
