Shelbyville, Ky.---July 5, 2007---Re/Max Performance Realty of Shelbyville, Ky. has put together a fundraiser for Shelby County Community Charity’s ‘Michael Long Day’ this year. They are asking the community to donate unwanted cell phones. That’s right—cell phones. Most Americans have at least one or two lying around their homes, collecting dust. Here is a way that they can be put to good use.
Shelby County Community Charity began in 1996 to help a 14-year-old boy named Michael Long and his family. Michael had been diagnosed with brain stem glioma. Through the Charity’s efforts over the last 10 years, they have been able to raise over $600,000 for Shelby Co. residents, including many children with life-threatening illnesses. Michael Long passed away in 1997, but he has not been forgotten. In 2005, a new playground in Shelbyville was dedicated in his name through the works of the Charity.
Re/Max is calling on the community to help them raise money for Shelby County Community Charity’s ‘Michael Long Day’ by donating used and inactive cell phones. Re/Max has partnered with PaceButler Corporation, one of the country’s leaders in cell phone recycling. The proceeds from the phones collected will be used to assist children of Shelby Co. and their families with medical and socioeconomic difficulties. For more information please call April Probus at (502) 633-4998. Cell phones may be dropped off at or mailed to 30 Stonecrest Court Suite 100, Shelbyville, KY 40065.
The Charity is a non-profit organization, so donations are tax-deductible. Remember that cell phones and their batteries are very harmful to the environment if they are not disposed of properly. By donating cell phones, it can be ensured that they do not end up in landfills.
