FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jul 03, 2007 – Bellevue, WA -- The Joint Commission recently announced its 2008 National Patient Safety Goals and related Requirements for each of its accreditation programs. The annual list once again includes Goal 3, which requires hospitals to improve the safety of using medications. Pharmacy OneSource, Inc., software-as-a-service provider to more than 1,000 hospitals in the United States, offers healthcare providers several different web-based solutions to help meet this goal.

“As The Joint Commission evolves its focus of areas of patient safety improvement so do our software services,” said Keith Streckenbach, Vice President of Pharmacy OneSource. “We already have our sights on the planned anticoagulant standards and will deliver solutions in advance of the 2009 implementation date.”

Accupedia by Pharmacy OneSource helps standardize and limit the number of drug concentrations used by the organization, which was removed as a goal this year, but will still be enforced. Accupedia solves challenges of integrating standardized concentrations while adding additional safeguards to protect patients. One-button optimization of complicated drip order sets minimizes fluids and maximizes dose based on preset algorithms developed by the University of Maryland.

Amplifi by Pharmacy OneSource helps with part C of Goal 3: Identify and, at a minimum, annually review a list of look-alike/sound-alike drugs used by the organization, and take action to prevent errors involving the interchange of these drugs. Amplifi provides the most versatile, easy-to-use tool to manage, update, and communicate a formulary and provides auto-generation of formulary specific look-alike sound-alike reports. As well, it effectively and swiftly communicates vital patient safety info plus policies and procedures throughout the entire organization.

In addition, the portfolio of web-based pharmacy solutions by Pharmacy OneSource addresses more than 80 JCAHO Standards and Elements of Performance in medication management and other areas.
