Jun 27, 2007 – On Monday, August 20, 2007, St. Joseph’s School for the Blind will be having their 17th Annual Phil Rizzuto Celebrity Charity Golf Classic for the benefit of St. Joseph’s School for the Blind in Jersey City, New Jersey. This Tournament will be held at the Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, N.J. This year’s Scooter Awards Honorees include, John Pennisi, recipient of the Phil Rizzuto/St. Joseph’s School for the Blind Humanitarian Award, Pat Conte, recipient of the Jack Grew Memorial Award for Service to St. Joseph’s, and Helga Liccardo, recipient of The Ed Lucas Vision Award.
The Phil Rizzuto Celebrity Charity Golf Classic was created in 1991 to benefit St. Joseph’s School for the Blind in New Jersey, the only school for the blind in the State. Over the years, the Tournament has attracted many luminaries from all fields including Yankees, Yogi Berra, Brian Doyle, Whitey Ford, Gil McDougald, Gene Michael, Rick Cerone, and Buck Showalter. Other ballplayers attending have been baseball greats Bob Feller, Bud Harrelson, Keith Hernandez, Larry Doby and Bobby Thomson. From other areas, celebrity golfers have included , N.Y. Rangers great Rod Gilbert, football legend Chuck Bednarik, and actors Aidan Quinn, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Jerry Orbach, Len Cariou and Tony LoBianco.
