Seal Beach, Calif.--- Seal Beach Animal Care Center has been collecting used cell phones for the past three years to help raise money for their non-profit animal shelter. They are asking the public to get involved and help out by donating cell phones to the center.
SBACC is a pro-life animal shelter committed to finding permanent, loving homes for the animals that come into their care. They primarily serve the City of Seal Beach, but network with other shelters, rescue groups, and animal sanctuaries across the country.
By collecting old cell phones, SBACC has raised over $2,000. The money goes directly to the care of the animals and assists with medical and veterinary costs. The center receives many animals that are very ill and injured, and the money raised from used cell phones is vital in helping them to receive care.
Donated cell phones not only help SBACC, they also help the environment. The cell phones that the shelter receives are sent to a company who recycles them in a responsible manner, which ensures that the harmful components in the phones and their batteries such as lead, arsenic, and mercury do not end up in landfills. With the passing of California Assembly Bill No. 2901 in July 2006, it is now illegal to throw away cell phones in the state of California, which means they must be recycled in some fashion. Might as well donate them to a good cause.
Cell phone donations may be dropped off at Seal Beach Animal Care Center during their business hours. They are open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. – 4p.m. They are also open Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. They are located at 1700 Adolfo Lopez Drive, Seal Beach, CA, 90740. Cell phones can be mailed to the address if you are unable to drop them off in person.
