Raleigh, NC (June 19, 2007) David Bibb, the owner of Points of View Photography Gallery in Raleigh, the only standing photography gallery in the Triangle, created an advocacy photobook that depicts the past, present, and potential future of the Dorothea Dix as a destination park. The 14X11 portfolio photo book, created by Viovio.com (a Raleigh based photo-publishing Web site), can be purchased for $45 at http://www.viovio.com, http://www.friendsofdix.org, or at
http://www.povgallery.com. Twenty dollars of the purchase price is donated to Friends of Dorthea Dix Park to support the Dorothea Dix project.
Much controversy and many interesting issues surrounding the Dorthea Dix project are at the forefront of the city of Raleigh. Along with photographers Joseph Huberman, David Iversen, David Small and Karen Tam, Bibb offers an artistic approach to representing the reasons for advocating for a destination park. The book commemorates Dorthea Dix as a historic landmark. In addition, it offers images that represent Bibb’s vision of what the park would be like: children running around and families coming together with the Downtown Raleigh skyline in the background. “As both a mental health and park advocate, I was naturally drawn to the Dorthea Dix project. As an artist, I wanted to share with people the beauty and the enchantment of the park,” commented Bibb. “Many major cities have had to pay millions of dollars to carve out space and clear out acres of land to create a city park while we already have the space in our possession. The park’s proximity to downtown Raleigh adds value and prestige to the land,” said Bibb.
One reason Viovio was selected to publish the Dorthea Dix project photobook was because additional photos can be easily added to the original book, making the book dynamic and easy to evolve and grow. This is great for a vigorous organization because the product can remain fresh.
