Corporate Training For Smoking Cessation Counsellors/
The problem.
The introduction in England of the smoking ban is developing into a major headache for employers, and with it comes the expected new regulations, failure to adhere to which, as always, will carry financial penalties. But just as employers thought they had heard the worst, new public health guidance recommendations have been announced, stating that “Employees who smoke must be given time to attend clinics to help them to quit smoking during working hours without loss of pay. Experience gained from other European countries who have already introduced restrictions confirms that two years down the line the problems of employing smokers continue.

The Solution.
A pioneering approach, rapidly growing in popularity, is the concept of training an existing employee within each organisation, to effectively become their own part time, in-house, stop smoking guru/therapist. Past experience confirms that potential candidates do not require any previous knowledge and, as an example, can be selected from those currently working in training departments, personnel, health and safety, or even appointed first aiders. The only pre-requisite is their ability to use empathy and their desire to help others improve their lives; ex smokers have proved wonderful candidates; the initial training can be completed in just three days.

"Through discussion and research we have an exact understanding
of the unique requirements of UK employers"
The Background Elite’s clinic located on the Costa del Sol close to Marbella is British owned and operated, and specialises in addiction therapy. Over four years have been invested in the developing of their own ‘Talk Therapy’ similar to the late Allen Carr’s EasyWay, which was reportedly used to help ten million smokers to ‘kick their habit’. Elite’s method was initially developed for smoking cessation, more recently the technique has been successfully used to help treat, Alcohol, Cocaine and Weight Control/Loss. The clinic was featured in the UK press recently regarding the number of Brits who continue to fly over for the €295 stop smoking treatment.
In response to requests from organisations to run group stop smoking sessions back in the UK, the last six months have been spent developing a unique three day master class training course, providing UK employers for the first time with the opportunity to offer their own in house solution.
The course uniquely covers the two requirements of UK employers; firstly the delegate is trained to a level where he or she can confidently deliver a complete stop smoking therapy treatment, virtually identical to that offered to clients of the clinic, with the same acceptable success rate. The delegates are also trained in the various techniques, approaches and interventions required to successfully assist smokers who have adopted or chosen an alternative approach to stopping smoking. All medical recommendations, including that of the NHS, state that for any user to obtain the maximum advantage from their chosen approach it should be used in conjunction with a therapy/counseling approach.
The three-day course is available in Spain at a cost of £1,495; the fee does not include flights or accommodation.
