Brian Quass, a veteran Northern Virginia webmaster, is debuting a new restaurant guide for the local area entitled "Chez Robot: the Photo-Illustrated Restaurant Guide for Northern Virginia." The site went online on the first of June in 2007 and currently features dozens of sample restaurant listings which restaurateurs are invited to browse in order to gauge the promise of this new online format. Yearly in-depth listings are available for a limited time at the introductory price of $20 for a year. Each subscriber's listing will feature a photograph of their restaurant, the basic stats about the establishment (hours of operation, cuisine, etc.) and additional links based on the webmaster's research into interesting restaurant-related facts. Site listings may be "tweaked" throughout the year to reflect seasonal menus, time-sensitive specials, etc.
Brian Quass has been a webmaster for 10 years, during which time he's garnered hundreds of thousands of "hits" with such sites as "Yankee Doodle's Dandy Dictionary of British Slang," "French for Kids," and a North American owl site for which he answered hundreds of his readers' owl-related questions in the persona of a fictional Great Horned Owl named Lena Horn. He takes his own photographs for his sites and he writes short, snappy restaurant summaries for each of his new site subscribers. His knowledge of database programming allows him to leverage his growing collection of restaurant data to best effect, both from the diner's point of view and from that of the restaurant owners.
Although there are obviously many online guides to Northern Virginia restaurants, Chez Robot is unique in offering the following set of benefits to subscribing restaurateurs:
1) Original restaurant photograph(s)
2) Menu search feature (so potential diners can search by entree for the restaurant(s)
3) Local site owner committed to working with restaurateurs (webmaster available year-round via phone or e-mail)
