Once out of hospital however, Richard, now bed bound at home decided to teach himself web design. He set out to create the site he had planned in hospital. He hoped to be able to generate some money which would pay for his living expenses and potentially help his business venture.
Richard explained the simple concept of TheOneBigAd.com:
The idea is visitors will follow the sites progress via his blog and click on the advertisements. Richard highlighted that “as the site progresses and begins to attract further media attention, the increase in visitors will lead to an increase in clicks making the $10 investment seem very small, particularly with the potential $250,000 prize fund.”
Despite only recently launching the site is attracting several hundred unique visitors a day. To date fifty seven companies have submitted banners from as far away as Australia and varying from cake decorators to web designers to chartered surveyors. The site has also attracted the attention of several newspapers and numerous sites covering the story.
Asked what he will do with the money raised, Richard said, “I hope to really make my company a success, it’s something I have dreamt about for years. Although my dislocated hip seemed like a major setback, maybe thanks to theonebigad.com it will actually end up being a bonus, be it in a somewhat painful disguise!”
