The possibility that erlich is a genius wont strike you by surprise when you first hear his first album 'talk show', the sharp lyrics would stab you like a knife, thinking and rethinking, November 5th, 1995, the sudden murder of Yitzhack rabin, re thinking the Americanization of Israel, as dealt in 'talk show' or 'medina mitpareket' which is clearly points we are in domed situation if we won't try harder to clear things out with our enemies, in and out.
The second album, recently published, 'news from the drawer', is very different from the first one, the strong use of the words, comes to hide the lack of music, the combination of drum, guitar bass and a singer, clearly marks the way of a man who has something to say, wants to make a mark and doesn't care about the humming of the snares, only the word count.
Sadly, in Israel, the mainstream music is held by touchy love songs, people doesn't want to hear into their faces, what is wrong with society, we would like to fill our mouths with water, sit in the same coffee shops in tel aviv, and try to forget everything else, we had our share, three years in the military left their mark, made us into numb persons, everyone of us remembers last year, during the Lebanon war, watching the tubes and thinking 'how sad we are', hence we would like to hear those touchy songs, and not to think about those sad moments no more.
Assaf erlich doesn't want to struggle the people, he knows that one day, when we'll open the radio we will hear him singing to us, about the new future, hugging us.
