acrolinx Announces New Tool for Simplified Technical English

The Berlin-based company’s latest software solution will assure quality and cut costs in the aerospace industry and beyond

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) – Berlin, Germany. June 12, 2007. acrolinx GmbH, the worldwide leading producer of content quality management tools for technical information, announces its new Simplified Technical English checker. The checker is a new module of acrocheck™, the powerful acrolinx Quality Assurance and Quality Control tool used by high-profile companies around the world. It is based on the guidelines of the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe, or ASD. Customers who require standard ASD Simplified Technical English, especially in the aerospace industry, can now benefit from the acrolinx solution. The solution helps customers save costs and dramatically increases efficiency by encouraging reuse. Standardizing documents and enhancing their quality will also minimize the risk of safety, damage, or liability claims.
acrolinx draws on its position as the market leader in authoring support and terminology lifecycle management as the basis for the Simplified Technical English module of acrocheck. For years, acrocheck has provided companies with Best Practice modules for checking style, grammar, and spelling that are rooted in a sophisticated natural language processor. It also offers modules tailored to the needs of individual customers. Unlike simple plug-in solutions, acrocheck has a client-server architecture that enables organizations to manage terminology centrally and provides them with standard sentences for Intelligent Reuse™. The acrolinx Simplified Technical English module builds on these proven functionalities. Customers can now choose between the different modules of the product, ranging from Simplified Technical English to less restrictive style rules.

“We are excited that this new module promises to help us more confidently address the needs of the aerospace domain,” said Andrew Bredenkamp, CEO of acrolinx. “acrocheck’s flexibility facilitates the implementation of Simplified Technical English. Our tool can thus support customers in ensuring the consistency of their documents by using controlled English as a basis.”

“Since it is integrated into our existing solution as another type of language standard, our STE checker is much more than a plug-in,” Bredenkamp added. “The server-based style, grammar, and terminology functionalities, as well as the enterprise-standard metrics and reporting that make acrocheck so popular, make our Simplified Technical English checker a unique tool on the market.”

Simplified Technical English was developed within the aerospace industry to help make English-language documentation more easily comprehensible for a multinational audience. Non-aerospace industries have adopted the guidelines of the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE) in their own documentation. ASD-STE 100 is a set of Writing Rules and a Dictionary of Controlled Vocabulary. The Dictionary includes a vocabulary selected for its clarity, which is sufficient for expressing any technical sentence.
