acrolinx draws on its position as the market leader in authoring support and terminology lifecycle management as the basis for the Simplified Technical English module of acrocheck. For years, acrocheck has provided companies with Best Practice modules for checking style, grammar, and spelling that are rooted in a sophisticated natural language processor. It also offers modules tailored to the needs of individual customers. Unlike simple plug-in solutions, acrocheck has a client-server architecture that enables organizations to manage terminology centrally and provides them with standard sentences for Intelligent Reuse™. The acrolinx Simplified Technical English module builds on these proven functionalities. “Since it is integrated into our existing solution as another type of language standard, our STE checker is much more than a plug-in,” Bredenkamp added. “The server-based style, grammar, and terminology functionalities, as well as the enterprise-standard metrics and reporting that make acrocheck so popular, make our Simplified Technical English checker a unique tool on the market.”
Simplified Technical English was developed within the aerospace industry to help make English-language documentation more easily comprehensible for a multinational audience. Non-aerospace industries have adopted the guidelines of the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE) in their own documentation. ASD-STE 100 is a set of Writing Rules and a Dictionary of Controlled Vocabulary. The Dictionary includes a vocabulary selected for its clarity, which is sufficient for expressing any technical sentence.
