FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) –
Jun 09, 2007 – LegalView.com, your one-stop shop for legal information online, has responded to the recall of MoisturePlus contact lens solution with a free new Web site collecting important information for concerned contact lens wearers. The solution's manufacturer, Advanced Medical Optics, announced a recall of all Complete MoisturePlus solution May 25 after the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that it was infected with waterborne parasites that can cause a rare but serious corneal infection. In response, LegalView announces http://moistureplus.legalview.com, a free clearinghouse for information on the contact solution and the recall for concerned consumers.
The CDC launched an investigation of Moisture Plus this year after receiving repeated complaints of a corneal infection, Acanthamoeba keratitis, in more than 130 contact lens wearers. Its conclusion: Users of MoisturePlus are seven times more likely to develop the infection than non-users. Acanthamoeba keratitis is particularly dangerous because it is difficult to treat and can lead to blindness if not controlled; patients may need corneal transplants. The disease is caused by Acanthamoeba, a parasite that lives in water, sewage systems, heating and cooling systems, and soil. Normally, a small number of contact lens wearers develop the infection after using tap water or other homemade solution to rinse and store their lenses. While Advanced Medical Optics says it does not know why the solution became infected, the firm did enact a previous recall of MoisturePlus due to contamination at a Chinese factory. To address the concerns of contact lens wearers and their families, LegalView has launched an online resource center at http://moistureplus.legalview.com. The comprehensive site includes details of the recall, symptoms to watch for, links to original information, government announcements, news feeds and news articles. As the recall and related news continue, LegalView plans to update the site to ensure that it remains fresh, complete -- and always completely free. The MoisturePlus portal joins LegalView's already comprehensive set of information on unsafe products and other legal issues, including recently added sites about the Peter Pan peanut butter recall, the rare cancer mesothelioma, Composix Kugel hernia mesh patches and the Menu Foods pet food recall. Visitors to LegalView.com can find links to legal resources in their states, a comprehensive glossary of legal terms, frequently updated news feeds and original articles about important legal topics. And those in need of a competent, experienced attorney can take advantage of LegalView's free, nationwide attorney referral service. LegalView.com was developed as a service to the public by Legal WebTV Network, LLC, a Limited Liability Corporation created by a national group of distinguished law firms: Anapol Schwartz; Brent Coon and Associates; Burg Simpson; Cohen, Placitella and Roth; James F. Humphreys and Associates; Lopez McHugh; and Thornton and Naumes.
