Mumbai, June 8, 2007. Mr. N. K. Mitra, Chairman, Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) India Council and Director (Offshore), ONGC today announced the schedule and the focus for the forthcoming SPE Oil & Gas Technical Conference & Exhibition to be held during March 4 – 6, 2008 at Mumbai.
India remains one of the least explored regions in the world with a well density of 20 per 10000 sq km Of the 26 sedimentary basins, only 8 have been explored so far.
With nearly $ 250 billion of investment required in the major segments of the Indian oil and gas industry, the govt. has opened up the sector to foreign investment, allowing 100% foreign ownership even in the refinery sector. In the upstream sector the government has introduced NELP for opening up the acreages for explorations which initiated the participation of the internationals in the Indian market.
The Technical Conference is expected to draw experts from oil and gas majors and service companies from across the world. The 2008 SPE India oil and gas technical conference and exhibition will target professionals from various ministries and regulatory agencies; health and safety authorities;
Technical papers will address the theme 'The Changing Landscape: Challenges and Opportunities in the E&P Industry in India' and will focus on Reservoir management, Marginal fields, Deepwater exploration&
